Guests at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce\u2019s NYC wedding<\/a> were surprised to see Brad Pitt tipping back drinks before he publicly admitted he was no longer sober<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A source told Page Six last month that the \u201cOcean\u2019s Eleven\u201d actor had been seen imbibing at the star-studded affair<\/a> at Madison Square Garden on July 3.<\/p>\n

The source noted at the time that guests were shocked to see Pitt, who has been vocal about his sobriety, drinking at the high-profile event that brought out Adam Sandler, Paul McCartney, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Tom Cruise and more.<\/p>\n

In an Esquire interview published Monday, the Oscar winner confirmed he had made the decision to drink again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon,\u201d Pitt\u00a0confessed in the interview.\u00a0\u201cIn a more restrained manner. I got overconfident a couple times, went, \u2018Yep, nope, not good for me.\u2019 Not in big quantities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pitt explained he \u201ccan have a few\u201d glasses of wine, but he \u201ccan\u2019t have a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to be professional about it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Pitt first revealed he was sober and joined a 12-step program in a\u00a02019 New York Times interview<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privilege,\u201d\u00a0he said at the time.<\/p>\n

Pitt quit drinking after an\u00a0alleged 2016 drunken incident on a plane\u00a0<\/a>that is said to have contributed to the disintegration of his marriage to Angelina Jolie.<\/p>\n

Jolie claimed in court documents that her then-husband\u00a0physically harmed<\/a>\u00a0her and one of\u00a0their six kids<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 Maddox, now 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18.\u00a0The FBI investigated but ultimately did not bring any charges\u00a0against the two-time Oscar winner.<\/p>\n

The \u201cMr. and Mrs. Smith\u201d co-stars were\u00a0declared legally single<\/a>\u00a0in 2019 and\u00a0settled their divorce<\/a>\u00a0in 2024.<\/p>\n

Pitt is estranged\u00a0from most of his children<\/a>,\u00a0and several have dropped his last name<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the candid interview, Pitt also opened up about a dark period in his life, admitting he once felt suicidal<\/a>\u00a0while navigating \u201cfamily stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been suicidal except for one little period. And in that one little period, I just thought \u2014 I just couldn\u2019t \u2014 just didn\u2019t see a way out,\u201d the \u201cFight Club\u201d actor\u00a0said.\u00a0\u201cThe pain was so oppressive that \u2014 I wasn\u2019t going to act on this, but I could feel \u2014 I could feel the cold steel of the bullet in my head, and it felt like relief.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued,\u00a0\u201cAnd I thought,\u00a0\u2018Oh, OK, now I understand\u2019 \u2014 I understand suicide, in the sense that it\u2019s just relief. It\u2019s just looking for relief from the pain. But I also think we have incredible survival instincts. And for me, that immediately kicked in, but it was just\u2009\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

After a pause, Pitt said, \u201cThis s\u2013t ain\u2019t easy. And you\u2019re talking to a guy who won the lottery.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the reporter asked the \u201cOnce Upon a Time \u2026 in Hollywood\u201d star if he was dealing with \u201ckid stuff,\u201d he replied, \u201cFamily stuff. We could leave it at that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pitt stars in several upcoming movies, including \u201cHeart of the Beast,\u201d an untitled project written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by David Fincher and \u201cThe Riders.\u201d<\/p>\n
