A permanent public mural within Houston\u2019s Southwest District is now complete, according to an Aug. 10 news release from officials.<\/p>\n
The overview<\/strong><\/p>\n The mural, entitled \u201cPainted Bridges,\u201d was officially unveiled at 9750 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, in a formal ceremony hosted Aug. 7.<\/p>\n Civic leaders and locals attended the event in recognition of the mural\u2019s contributions to the area, while also celebrating the completion of a three-week experiential-learning program between Taiwanese and Houston-based arts professionals, officials said.<\/p>\n How it happened<\/strong><\/p>\n Spearheaded by EpNex<\/a>, the international initiative paired six emerging artists and designers from Taiwan with Houston street art pioneer Mario E. Figueroa Jr.\u2014more popularly known as GONZO247\u2014for the co-creation of a new public landmark.<\/p>\n In the 21 days leading up to the mural\u2019s unveiling, the formation immersed itself in culture, mentorship, collaborative mural development and individual portfolio work throughout different parts of Greater Houston, including Pearland and Sugar Land, according to the release.<\/p>\n Driving elements behind the program involved a featured partnership between EpNex and GONZO247 Studio<\/a>, as well as support from the Ministry of Education Republic of China’s (Taiwan) Youth 10 Billion Overseas Dream Fund Program<\/a>; the Southwest Management District<\/a>; and OCA-Greater Houston<\/a>, per release details.<\/p>\n This is the Southwest Management District\u2019s first international artist collaboration project.<\/p>\n Zooming in<\/strong><\/p>\n The finished mural is centered around the program\u2019s theme, \u201cThe Space Between,\u201d and reflects upon the meaningful moments and shared experiences that define strangers-to-collaborators relationships, officials said.<\/p>\n Several key visual narratives interwoven throughout the permanent artwork include:<\/p>\n\n
