A Netflix star known for her bubbly spirit and high kicks is heading for a different stage in 2026. Former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader (DCC) Reece Weaver is making her Broadway debut, according to a Tuesday, August 11, social media announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Weaver, who previously caught the hearts of fans in the Netflix series “America’s Sweethearts,” will take on a new persona as the lead, Roxie Hart, in the production “Chicago.” The 24-year-old is set to begin performing inside New York City’s Ambassador Theatre on Monday, September 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Typing this sentence doesn\u2019t even feel real\u2026” Weaver wrote in a post on TikTok. “One of my biggest dreams as a performer was to one day be on Broadway, and I cannot believe this dream has come to fruition.”<\/p>\n

“Chicago” is the longest-running Broadway show and is described as a dark satire that centers on themes of crime, jazz, and a desire for fame, per the New York Theatre Guide<\/a>. To date, it’s been honored<\/a> with six Tony Awards, two Oliver Awards, and a Grammy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A peek at Weaver’s\u00a0Instagram<\/a> shows she saw it live this past April and took photos with the cast.\u00a0Tickets<\/a> to the shows, which will run on select dates through Saturday, October 18, are already on sale.<\/p>\n

It comes just two months after the Florida-born athlete revealed she was retiring her\u00a0DCC status after three years on the team. It came as a shock to many fans, as Weaver became one of the most consistently\u00a0featured faces across the three seasons of the Netflix project. During the same period, she also secured partnerships with major brands such as Kendra Scott<\/a>, Touchland<\/a>, and Dunkin’ Donuts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think I\u2019ve ever been more nervous before in my life,” Weaver told Tudum.com<\/a>\u00a0the day she retired from the DCC. \u201cThe scary part is I don\u2019t know where I\u2019m landing, and so it\u2019s just about going into the unknown.\u201d<\/p>\n

Weaver did not cite a specific, singular reason for her departure, though she told Tudum.com that during the most recent DCC off-season, she was able to say yes to a lot more opportunities, which helped make the decision final.<\/p>\n

“The more I considered new opportunities that were so graciously coming in, I think my heart was ready to move on to the next phase of life, ” Weaver said. “I do think that there does come a time personally where you feel like you\u2019ve given everything, and once you feel that, there is this sense of, ‘OK, well, if my absence gives another girl an opportunity for her cup to be filled.’ That\u2019s kind of the moment where you\u2019re really realizing, ‘OK, I probably shouldn\u2019t re-audition.'”<\/p>\n

It’s the latest in a string of milestone moments. Weaver, alongside\u00a0her husband, Will Alman, celebrated a move to Alabama<\/a>. Before then, she was tapped as an announcer for the Opry 100<\/a>, an event paying tribute to legends who helped shape country music.
