A global energy watchdog<\/a> has warned in a new report that oil stockpiles<\/a> are \u201crapidly depleting\u201d, as it urged for a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cAlthough the market is projected to return to surplus towards the end of this year, risks remain substantial and the urgency of reopening the Strait has increased, as previously available inventory buffers are rapidly depleting,\u201d the International Energy Agency<\/a> wrote in a new report. <\/p>\n The agency said that supply is expected to fall by 4.3 mb\/d (million barrels per day) in 2026 due to losses in the Middle East and Russia. <\/p>\n It comes despite Donald Trump\u2019s unfounded claim that US forces \u201ctotally \u2060control the Strait of Hormuz\u201d. <\/p>\n \u201cNobody else, only us [controls it],\u201d he said. \u201cAt some point, maybe they’ll do something and then they get blown away.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the US<\/a> military fired on a Panamanian-flagged ship in the Gulf of Oman yesterday after accusing it of trying to evade the American blockade on Iranian ports.<\/p>\n The military said the vessel had ignored warnings to stop, prompting an American helicopter to fire missiles into the engine room of the M\/V Vela Nova, disabling the ship.<\/p>\n <\/a>Global oil stockpiles ‘rapidly depleting’ due to Hormuz, says energy watchdog<\/p>\n Global oil stockpiles are \u201crapidly depleting\u201d, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned in a new report.<\/a> <\/p>\n \u201cAlthough the market is projected to return to surplus towards the end of this year, risks remain substantial and the urgency of reopening the Strait has increased, as previously available inventory buffers are rapidly depleting,\u201d the agency wrote in its Oil Market Report for August 2026. <\/p>\n The report states that oil supply is forecast to fall by 4.3 mb\/d (million barrels per day) in 2026 to around 102 mb\/d.
