{"id":998402,"date":"2026-08-13T15:55:25","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T15:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/998402\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T15:55:25","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T15:55:25","slug":"waymo-expands-service-by-55-square-miles-adding-gilbert-chandler-neighborhoods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/998402\/","title":{"rendered":"Waymo expands service by 55 square miles, adding Gilbert, Chandler neighborhoods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\"><b>GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 Waymo is growing its footprint across the Valley, adding 55 square miles to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2026\/05\/28\/waymo-rolls-out-new-ojai-autonomous-vehicles-phoenix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2026\/05\/28\/waymo-rolls-out-new-ojai-autonomous-vehicles-phoenix\/\">autonomous ride-hailing service<\/a> and bringing its total Phoenix-area coverage to more than 350 square miles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">The expansion opens service to several East Valley communities, including Gilbert, additional parts of Chandler, and <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/QgAh59ZfLYLjba7e9\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/QgAh59ZfLYLjba7e9\">San Tan Ranch<\/a>, Waymo announced Thursday morning. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Waymo's expanded service area now covers more than 350 square miles across the Phoenix metro,...\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/XLI7OG2KBFAAFJU3CSXNZMNRR4.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"524\" \/>Waymo&#8217;s expanded service area now covers more than 350 square miles across the Phoenix metro, stretching into Gilbert, Chandler, and San Tan Ranch.(Waymo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatewayairport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.gatewayairport.com\/\">Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport<\/a> is also expected to be added as a stop in the near future, which would make Phoenix the city with the most airport access to Waymo in the world, joining Sky Harbor International Airport and Scottsdale Airpark.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">Because the expansion reaches closer to Waymo\u2019s Mesa facility, vehicles can drive themselves directly from the facility into service, picking up their first passengers within minutes of leaving the building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">For Waymo, the move carries a sense of history.
