Was one of your favorite dinner spots<\/a> closed this summer? You may not be alone.<\/p>\n At least 20 food businesses in Dallas-Fort Worth<\/a> have closed or are about to close this summer, with reasons ranging from high food costs, pricey leases to dwindling sales. Some of them have been open for many years.<\/p>\n The closures were already piling up. North Texas\u00a0ranked No. 3<\/a> nationally in restaurant closures from January to June 2026, just after the New York and Chicago metro areas, according to a\u00a0report<\/a> from RestaurantData, a restaurant industry company. It estimated that 7,593 restaurants closed across the United States during the first half of 2026 \u2014 and Texas led with 1,039 closures.\u00a0<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Wondering why your go-to D-FW restaurant has closed its doors? We\u2019ve compiled some restaurants that closed or plan to close this summer.<\/p>\n Restaurant Beatrice<\/p>\n The Cajun and Creole eatery closed<\/a> on June 7 after brunch. Co-owner and chef Michelle Carpenter, who was recuperating from brain tumor surgery, said she couldn\u2019t run the restaurant at the same time.<\/p>\n The chef worked to empower women leaders in restaurants and lower Beatrice\u2019s carbon footprint on top of the eatery\u2019s daily operations.<\/p>\n Restaurant Beatrice was at 1111 N. Beckley Road, Dallas.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Jonny’s Pizza<\/p>\n The restaurant\u2019s Fort Worth location closed in June. A lockout notice dated June 19 showed failure to pay delinquent rent, Community Impact\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n It served New York-Style pizza and Italian cuisine. Other locations<\/a> in Aubrey and Frisco remain.<\/p>\n Jonny\u2019s Pizza was at 5337 Golden Triangle Blvd., Fort Worth.<\/p>\n Crossbuck Barbecue<\/p>\n The barbecue joint<\/a> from a prominent voice in Dallas-Fort Worth barbecue closed in late June at the end of its five-year lease. Crossbuck co-owner Tim McLaughlin recently competed on the Food Network show BBQ Brawl<\/a>.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Barbecue is “a tough business,” McLaughlin said<\/a>. It was started in 2024 by three pitmasters from Goldee\u2019s Barbecue<\/a>, which Texas Monthly\u00a0has called the best barbecue spot in the state. Ribbee\u2019s focused almost exclusively on ribs.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Pitmaster and owner Jonny White has turned his attention to Kirbee’s, a new barbecue joint<\/a> he\u2019s opening soon in New York City with pitmaster Chuck Charnichart.<\/p>\n Ribbee’s was at 923 E. Seminary Drive, Fort Worth.<\/p>\n Mija Barbecue<\/p>\n The family-owned barbecue joint closed<\/a> on June 27, in part due to rising food costs<\/a>. Mija Barbecue had served the Cedar Hill community for about seven years.<\/p>\n The reason behind the closure was \u201cpurely economic,\u201d said owner Ryan Siegler. Everything costs more, and some old customers could no longer afford eating there as often.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Mija Barbecue was at 406 W. Belt Line Road, Cedar Hill.\u00a0<\/p>\n Harumama<\/p>\n Harumama Noodles + Buns, an Asian restaurant from San Diego selling steamed buns<\/a> and other foods,\u00a0closed<\/a> its Carrollton location in late June. The brand did not specify a reason for the closure in its announcement.<\/p>\n The restaurant expanded to North Texas in 2024 because of its reputation as a food-loving region, The Dallas Morning News previously reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n Harumama was at 1060 W. Frankford Road, Suite 200, Carrollton. \u00a0<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Hungry Howie’s\u00a0\n<\/p>\n The pizza brand from Michigan closed<\/a> its Keller store on June 30. The shop had been open<\/a> for about two years, serving a variety of pizzas and breads, like Detroit-style pizza and deep-dish bread.<\/p>\n Hungry Howie’s was at 1320 N. Main St., Suite 100, Keller.<\/p>\n Mutts Canine Cantina<\/p>\n The bar and grill spot that doubled as a dog park closed<\/a> both its Dallas and Fort Worth locations in late June.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAfter nearly 15 years, we\u2019ve had a great run with Mutts in Dallas and Fort Worth, and it\u2019s time to shift our focus to our other brands,\u201d co-founder Kyle Noonan wrote in a statement to The Dallas Morning News.\u00a0<\/p>\n Mutts Canine Cantina was at 2889 Cityplace W. Blvd. in Dallas and 5317 Clearfork Main St. in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n Cow Tipping Creamery<\/p>\n The ice cream shop closed its last location<\/a>, at The Star in Frisco, on July 14. It was known for its \u201cstackers<\/a>,\u201d or sundaes piled high with ice cream, fudge and baked goods.<\/p>\n The company, which owns pizza shops like Cane Rosso, plans to open a cocktail bar called The Imperial Room in the same space. It offered meatballs, Italian chopped salad, baked\u00a0ziti, chicken scallopini, hand-spun pizzas and more.<\/p>\n It isn\u2019t clear why Kenny\u2019s closed. The company operates four other restaurants, such as Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill and Kenny’s Italian Kitchen, both in Addison.<\/p>\n Kenny’s East Coast Pizza was at 4701 W. Zang Blvd., Dallas.<\/p>\n Manpuku Japanese Yakiniku Grill<\/p>\n After about five years in Lower Greenville, the grill closed<\/a> on July 19. The dining and entertainment space cited violence in the area as a reason for the closure.\u00a0<\/p>\n The brand\u2019s other hospitality businesses, including Kitchen + Kocktails and Club Vivo, will continue operating.\u00a0<\/p>\n Kanvas was at 2823 Main St., Dallas.<\/p>\n Amor Y Queso<\/p>\n Amor Y Queso, another food-related business in Deep Ellum, closed<\/a> on July 20 due to dwindling sales. The cheese shop first opened in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n Owner Sarah Carlock used the space as a prep kitchen for her charcuterie board catering business for a while before reopening it to the public with expanded offerings in June. Carlock hoped to continue her catering business in the future.<\/p>\n Amor Y Queso was at 2932 Main St., Suite 102, Dallas.<\/p>\n Amor Y Queso closed on July 20.<\/p>\n Sarah Carlock<\/p>\n The Hub<\/p>\n The open-air food park<\/a> in Allen, the brand\u2019s first location in Texas, closed<\/a> on July 20 after nearly four years. The company cited economic challenges due to lower-than-expected growth in the area and the opening of nearby restaurants as reasons for closing.<\/p>\n Shortly after the closure announcement, the founders said the property had been acquired<\/a> by new owners.<\/p>\n The Hub was at 1289 Johnson Road, Allen.<\/p>\n Beto and Son<\/p>\n The nearly decade-old Mexican restaurant in West Dallas closed<\/a> after dinner on July 25. Co-owner Beto Rodarte retired after 40 years in the industry, including work at the eatery with his son Julian Rodarte. The duo appeared<\/a> on Food Network TV show Beat Bobby Flay in 2018, two years after Beto and Son opened.<\/p>\n The Rodartes sold their lease to a restaurateur who planned to open something in its place. Pool\/Dallas Morning News<\/p>\n The original Cantina Laredo\u00a0\n<\/p>\n The first store for the Tex-Mex chain closed<\/a> in Addison on Aug. 2. “Rent would have risen to the point that the restaurant would be unprofitable,” wrote Bill Watson, vice president of marketing at Cantina Laredo’s parent company, in an email.\u00a0<\/p>\n The brand began 42 years ago and now has three locations in Texas: in Frisco, at Dallas Love Field and at DFW International Airport.<\/p>\n Cantina Laredo was at 4546 Belt Line Road, Dallas.\u00a0<\/p>\n Texas Ale Project<\/p>\n The Dallas brewery\u00a0closed<\/a> on Aug. 8. It opened in the Dallas Design District in 2014, a year after legislation began allowing taproom sales in Texas.<\/p>\n The Texas Ale Project didn’t give a reason for its closure.
