Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Warriors<\/strong> general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.<\/strong> made it clear that retaining guard Brandin Podziemski<\/a><\/strong> is a priority for the organization, writes Nick Friedell of The Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Podziemski, the 19th overall pick of the 2023 draft, is eligible for a rookie scale extension<\/a> until the day before the regular season begins and will be on track for restricted free agency in 2027 if a new deal isn\u2019t reached. Dunleavy said he\u2019d prefer to extend Podziemski rather than have his contract situation drag out until next summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s important to us,\u201d Dunleavy said. \u201cWe really value Brandin. He\u2019s a player that for all the things he does well, most importantly, impacts winning. When he\u2019s on the court, we\u2019re a better team. So, any time you got a guy like that, you want to be able to keep him around.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, we have multiple ways to do it through extension and restricted free agency and all that, but we\u2019d prefer to get it done sooner than later. We really like Brandin. He\u2019s done a terrific job for us, and he\u2019s a big part of our program.\u201d<\/p>\n
