The only question now is who gets to say yes.<\/p>\n

For the past month, the Paramount-Warner Bros. fight has looked like a story about lawsuits, deadlines and billions of dollars. My insiders keep telling me to look past the courtroom and at what could be waiting on the other side.<\/p>\n

Because according to my sources, the stage is being set for Snyder to finally make a proper The Dark Knight Returns, with a full SnyderVerse return<\/a> potentially following behind it.<\/p>\n

Snyder And Jay Oliva Are \u201cItching To Go\u201d<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the new information: I\u2019m told The Dark Knight Returns is ready.<\/p>\n

And Snyder wouldn\u2019t be doing it alone.<\/p>\n

Jay Oliva, who directed Warner Bros.\u2019 animated The Dark Knight Returns and served as Snyder\u2019s right hand storyboarding his DC movies from Man of Steel through Justice League, is with him.<\/p>\n

Per my sources, \u201cthey\u2019re itching to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t coming out of nowhere.<\/p>\n

Last year, our insiders said Snyder had been approached about a Dark Knight Returns movie<\/a> as part of a potential SnyderVerse return under the new regime.<\/p>\n

Then in July, we asked Snyder about it directly on stage. His answer: \u201cwhen they let us.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Now I\u2019m told this isn\u2019t simply something Snyder would like to do someday. The project is sitting there ready, waiting on an owner who can finally say yes.<\/p>\n

Why The Dark Knight Returns Fits Paramount\u2019s IMAX Push<\/p>\n

So why does this make sense now?<\/p>\n

Because I\u2019m told the studios are pushing hard into IMAX, and Paramount wants big event movies that give people a reason to get off the couch and go to a theater.<\/p>\n

The Dark Knight Returns, according to my sources, fits that plan perfectly.<\/p>\n

And Snyder is already built for it.<\/p>\n

He shot Justice League in the IMAX aspect ratio, something my insiders pointed out people laughed at him for at the time. The joke was that he\u2019d never get an IMAX release anyway.<\/p>\n

And per my insiders, Snyder\u2019s IMAX approach to Justice League came through Christopher Nolan\u2019s encouragement<\/a>, and Snyder is one of the few directors who can shoot an entire movie in the format. IMAX itself has even featured his Justice League in clips on its social media.<\/p>\n

The guy they laughed at now looks like the guy who saw where things were headed.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s another point my sources keep stressing: Snyder needs no AI.<\/p>\n

My Insiders Say The Nolan Connection Is No Coincidence<\/p>\n

Which brings us back to this week\u2019s push to settle the Paramount-Warner Bros. lawsuit.<\/p>\n

As we covered, the DGA and IATSE are urging Bonta and Ellison to settle<\/a>, with conditions centered on theatrical windows and guaranteed theatrical output.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s right in Nolan\u2019s wheelhouse, and the DGA is Nolan\u2019s guild.<\/p>\n

Per my insiders, Nolan pushing for it is not a coincidence.<\/p>\n

Follow the chain: the lawsuit ends, the merger closes, and Paramount gets to build the IMAX-first, event-movie studio David Ellison has been talking about.<\/p>\n

And sitting there waiting is The Dark Knight Returns , an IMAX-ready event movie from the director Nolan encouraged to embrace the format in the first place.<\/p>\n

The Snyder Signals Keep Adding Up<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s what happened Monday night on the Warner Bros. lot.<\/p>\n

As we reported, De Luca and Abdy invited Snyder back to host a screening of Excalibur<\/a>, his favorite movie, where he received a hero\u2019s welcome from a standing-room crowd.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m told that wasn\u2019t some random movie night.<\/p>\n

According to my sources, the screening was calculated and timed with the 10th anniversary of Suicide Squad. It also happened the same week David Ayer posted from the lot and our insiders detailed the directors\u2019 cuts theatrical plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It all fits the same strategy I\u2019ve been hearing about for months.<\/p>\n

Paramount wants to get back to what made these studios great, using legacy screenings to fire up existing fanbases and get them ready for what\u2019s coming<\/a>, alongside a renewed push into physical media and merchandise, which is popular with Gen Z.<\/p>\n

Bring the fans back. Give them something they actually want.<\/p>\n

And look at the calendar.<\/p>\n

If Bonta comes to the table before Ellison\u2019s October 1 deadline<\/a>, the new owners could arrive months early. If it goes to trial instead, the verdict comes in spring 2027.<\/p>\n

Either way, nothing on Snyder\u2019s slate stands in the way. The Last Photograph is complete and awaiting release. Escape From New York and Brawlers have no release dates.<\/p>\n

Which means The Dark Knight Returns can jump to the front of the line the day an owner can say yes.<\/p>\n

The Dark Knight Returns is ready. Oliva is aboard. Snyder wants to do it. And I\u2019m told it\u2019s built for exactly the kind of big-screen IMAX push Paramount wants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they let us\u201d now has a case number, and according to my insiders, a movie waiting on the other side of it.<\/p>\n
