NASA reveals what a base on the moon could look like | ITV News
NASA has unveiled plans to put a permanent base on the moon that would establish humanity’s first lunar outpost.
The space agency plans to establish a camp near the lunar south pole, “one of the most strategically and scientifically valuable regions on the moon,” which will support humans living and working there.
The ambitious project will eventually stretch hundreds of square miles across the lunar south pole region, an area of the moon whose environmental conditions make it well-suited for human exploration.
NASA said the moon base will be built over time, starting with near-term technology demonstrations, robotic missions, and early experiments.
The second base mission will fly cargo to the lunar surface aboard while a third will deliver payloads “chosen through open competition, as well as international partners”.
Both missions are targeted to launch before the end of 2026.
