UK roasts in extreme June heat as schools and travel disrupted – Watch the ITV Evening News

The UK could set the record for the hottest June day ever with temperatures set to soar to 40C on Wednesday.

A “heat-dome” is sat over western Europe which could pull this latest heatwave above the record for June set in Hampshire in 1976.

As well as closing schools and causing travel chaos, the extreme heat is also expected to impact big events – including Harry Styles concert at Wembley Stadium.

A red weather warning for extreme heat covering an area from London to Swansea and Somerset to Birmingham was issued by the Met Office from 9am on Wednesday to 9pm on Thursday.
