Survivors of Rochdale grooming gang ‘terrified’ as ex leader to be released from jail

The man increasingly likely to be the next Prime Minister, Andy Burnham has called on the Home Office and Foreign Office to ‘review all possible options’ to deport the ringleader of a grooming gang set for release.

Shabir Ahmed, 73, known to his victims as “Daddy”, will be freed on Thursday 2 July after serving 14 years in jail since his conviction in 2012 for multiple rape and sexual offences against young girls in Rochdale.

Victims have also been told that Ahmed, who holds dual Pakistani-British citizenship, cannot be deported back to his birth country despite being stripped of his British citizenship.
