Uefa reaffirms World Cup boycott threat after rejecting Infantino apology: Watch ITV’s News at Ten

Uefa has said Gianni Infantino’s apology over his scrapped World Cup investment plan “changes nothing” and reaffirmed its threat to boycott Fifa competitions.

In a letter signed by Infantino and Fifa general secretary Mattias Grafström on Wednesday and seen by ITV News, Fifa sought to move past the crisis and uphold the president’s leadership in the face of calls for his sacking.

However, in a statement on Thursday, Uefa questioned the credibility of the message, which declared Infantino had the “full support” of members of Fifa’s management board.

Also on tonight’s News at Ten:

• The deep global divisions across football are tonight still there for all to see despite the apology issued by Gianni Infantino over his controversial World Cup sell-off plans. European football’s powerful ruling body, UEFA, says its boycott of the World Cup could still go ahead

• Millions are facing chaos and delays to their train journeys tonight. National Rail says it’s been caused by a power failure at a vital communications centre.

• The artists that record producer James Ellis Ford has worked with reads like a who’s who of British pop. Blur, Pulp, The Arctic Monkeys and Depeche Mode.
He’d got some of them together to make a charity record, when illness struck. Leukaemia. But on the chemo ward, he kept on writing and producing.
Now he’s releasing an album of his own to focus, as he told us today, on the positive things in life.
