We took a standard lithium battery to a testing lab to find out &#8211; and the results are terrifying.<\/p>\n<p>With 96% of air passengers carrying lithium-powered devices, in-flight battery malfunctions are on the rise. When a battery is damaged or overcharged, it can trigger an unstoppable chain reaction called &#8220;thermal runaway,&#8221; acting like a flamethrower inside the aircraft cabin.<\/p>\n<p>To see exactly what happens, we teamed up with the University of Warwick to test lithium power banks in an &#8220;abuse chamber&#8221;.
