  1. The Republicans are so far in Putin’s pocket. Holding up vital aid is treasonous at this point.

  2. I hate the republican party for a great many things, but denying Ukraine critical aid as their men die… is absolutely the top of the list right now. What needless extra stress those poor men are going through right now.

Just another in a long list I’ll never forgive them for… and I’ll certainly never forget.

  3. Pilots have been training for like a year and a half on them…where have they been?

  4. As much as I support Ukraine we need to understand this is a gambit. He wants to up the game to get better weapons. It’s not that he’s wrong to want better arms but perhaps a bit tone deaf. Yes, we should give them better arms.

    >Ahead of his arrival in Brussels for a meeting to mark the 75th anniversary of Nato, Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian foreign minister, called for Kyiv’s Western allies to prioritise sending more US-made Patriot air defence batteries.
    >
    > “Seven Patriot systems would be optimal, but let me be modest,” he said. “With five Patriot batteries, we can defend the main industrial cities against Russian missiles.”
    >
    > The US, Netherlands and Germany have so far contributed several of the systems, which are estimated to cost about $1 billion each.
    >
    > “And once we’ve taken the threat away, the Patriots go back to where they were stationed.”
    >
    > But after a meeting with his Polish counterpart, Radek Sikorski, Mr Kuleba upgraded his demand to “all Patriot batteries available around the world that can be provided to Ukraine must be delivered to Ukraine”.

  5. Exporting firearms to defend freedom from socialists is the most American thing I can think of. I am annoyed and confused. Honestly think GOP must have Russian plants.

  6. You know one major problem with this slow boil BS I hear people parrot snarkly? Besides the lives wasted and transformation of Russian society allowed to happen (war mobilization) and expanding conflict, it completely ignores the reality of timing.

It’s not that platforms are being delivered with the same effectiveness just with the added bonus that Russia doesn’t escalated, (i guess because they are gold fish with no long term memory?). Instead, the kit they get is much less effective because the battlefield changes over months and Russian tactics evolve, meaning Ukrainian solutions must also evolve.

I know foreign policy is hard, especially when people freeze up whenever a Russian whispers the word nuclear. But some strategies are straight up illogical and need to be called out not endorsed.

  7. Russia is continuously having aerial objects of all kinds get through. It can’t protect its skies. It’s the morality of the Ukrainians that keep Russian civilians from getting bombed in malls. Too bad Russia doesn’t have that same morality to not target children and civilian architecture.

  8. Can you imagine if they had a fleet of raptors, what a change of game that would be

  9. Aside from Patriots, he’s not asking for better arms. He’s asking for MORE arms. Specifically, millions more shells.

  10. F-16 will still be a net positive but its pointless if the troops on the ground dont have the tools they need.

It’s like giving your truck sweet new offroad tires but there no diesel in the state.

The gravy is nice, but you **need** the basics.

  11. Great! So we can send the pilots home and stop maintenance/ restoration?! Just call our ambassador to confirm pls!! Saves us a lot of money

  12. Didn’t they use a Cessna the other day? Are they really completely irrelevant?

  13. They’re lethal as interceptors against basically everything in the Russian inventory with the right missiles and at least a generation ahead of any Russian jet in terms of precision bombing.

Perhaps a better way to put it is they’re more useful to an army on the attack than an army on the defense operating in range of serious enemy air defenses and with more pressing needs in mind.

F16s were also designed to be used with NATO munitions and systems which is a logistics and combat benefit, but also presents the Ukrainian with news capabilities, Access to better weapons and systems designed to counter Soviet/Russian defensive and offensive measures.

  14. Mmmmm well, we have a bunch of 117As gathering dust around here somewhere…

  15. How are F-16s in the CAS role?

I can kinda see the official’s point. In some ways the Ukraine War is more the old timey kind with large numbers of troops forming sprawling front lines.

Unless you have enough aircraft to launch a strategic bombing campaign that will break the enemy’s industrial back, it’s not the kind of war that can be won with aircraft.

I imagine it’s tremendously hard to repel an invasion when you can’t appreciably harm the support structure behind the invasion.

  16. Keep point from the article: they get delivered shit when it is no longer needed. At this point, the US government will be fucking complicit in the failure of Ukraine to not be overrun by Russia. It’s like we almost want to see them fail, but pretend like we are trying to g to help. It’s like fucking thoughts and prayers meets military aid. For fucks sake. Let’s give them 20 more patriot systems and let’s ramp up facilities in Eastern Europe to manufacture artillery shells.
