Record numbers in the US are homeless. Can cities fine them for sleeping in parks and on sidewalks?

  1. This is why Biden (or anyone else) talking about how great the US economy is just rings supper hollow and out of touch.

Things are so bad for folks at the bottom of the ladder that they are falling off of it to die in the streets. Whatever is going on at the top or in the middle (and I am seeing a lot of layoffs in the middle), folks at the bottom are pretty much dying of poverty and homelessness at an unprecedented level.

If that’s still a “good economy” then we must ask.. for whom?

  2. When I become homeless I’m going to turn it into a game and get the highest debt and fines I can. My goal is to die with zero assets and millions in debt.

  3. Of course. And when they can’t pay their fines they’ll be sent to jail. In jail the prisoners will be rented out to corporations as “no-cost labor “. The for-profit-prisons will call it “job training”. We’ll call it modern slavery.

  4. One thing about homeless people is that neither Republicans nor the Democrats care much about them since they are not a reliable voting bloc. How many times has Bernie Sanders tweeted about the homeless population from his comfortable vacation home?. I took Bernie as an example since we see a lot of his tweets are featured in this sub regularly.

  5. A large percentage of homeless are mentally ill, we defunded the mental hospitals in this country decades ago because of inhumane treatment and abuse. Now they are out on the streets. If we want to take this seriously, not many are at this point, then we need to invest massively in mental health facilities in this country.
