  1. This is very true I think. Germany was widely mocked for being a bunch of wealthy hippies wasting money installing solar in a cloudy northern country in the past. But in a large part it was their decision to do that that spurred large scale manufacturing of PV, which ultimately led to it becoming the cheapest source of electricity in a lot of the world.
