I think this is probably biggest reason why Poland is one of the safest country in Europe or whole World

According to Small Arms Survey 2017, Poland has lowest rate of civilians' firearems possession per capita in Europe (2,5). and as a person from where it is even lower than Poland (0,2) I bet this factor has much impact for safety. and also, you guys are doing really great when it comes to economy (becoming much richer for last 2 or 3 decades.) and the government really strived to clear gangs up in 90s.

  1. The biggest reason is national and racial hegemony. Look at the whitest states and whitest areas of the US, no crime there either.

  2. The biggest reason is being a monoethnic country, second is low povery rate. I don’t think access to guns would even make third or fourth place.

  3. It’s actually having mostly ethnic Europeans with a super majority Poles but nice try

  4. It’s one of least important reasons, kek. In the ’90 we’ve had even less firearms per 100 people, care to check how crime stats looked back then? Geeee, I wonder what changed…

  5. No, this is the effect. When you are safe, you don’t bother firearm. You can safely walk street in the middle of the night, so why you may want to spend your money for it? Except hobby ofc.

  6. No. But this is the reason why we’re going to get absolutely slaughtered if Russia ever manages to invade us. Or germany.

  7. 2017 was long time ago. Small arms survey is very much outdated.

We have bought 83537 new firearms (registered ones) in 2023 alone, which made it total of 843755 registered firearms in hands of general population at the end of 2023.

Obviously, black powder weapons are excluded from that number since they dont need to be registered and can be bought by anyone who is 18+, without any permits. Estimates are that there are around 1 milion of those firearms in hands of Poles.

Poland has one of the most liberal gun laws in Europe, we rapidly arm ourselves, and yet our crime stats are low.

There are other reasons behind low crime rates.

  8. I wouldn’t say so. Back during my bachelor one of the things I took a particular interest in was how economic factors contribute to crime, and I found numerous studies indicating that the more widespread inequality is, the higher crime tends to be. If you ever travel between western Europe and Poland you’ll notice how much harder it is to tell the economic class of someone in Poland than the class of, say, someone in the Netherlands. I walked down a street in Limburg today and I could immediately approximate the wealth of each person I passed.

  9. Both Switzerland and Norway has a lower homicide rate and 10x the amount of guns per capita…

And while Poland has relatively few guns, it also has relatively easy access and is one of the few countries in Europe with shall issue concealed carry (if you have a sport shooting license you can carry loaded and concealed in public).

  10. No, it does not have anything to do. There was plenty of crime in Poland in the nineties after the communists left the country a poor shithole – and crime steadily dropped as conditions improved.

Now, low poverty, racial homogeneity and low misery are bigger contributors. There are criminals, sure, but there are no incentives for armed crime.
