  1. Populist politics. Good for a few workers and share holders, bad for the rest of consumers. The CHIPS approach is better, invest in being competitive.

  2. Chinese govt gives less subsidy per EV than the US ($4180 China vs $7500 US). They’ve just been giving it for longer (10+ years). It’s literally just a bet that has paid off, and American automakers felt too comfortable and fell behind (they couldn’t even catch up to Japanese manufacturers).

  3. This will make American goods more competitive. Companies are raising prices faster than inflation. By locking out Chinese made products hurts American consumers who need cheaper goods.

  4. Headline should read: Chinese strategic investment and subsidized R&D delivers results US companies can’t compete with.

  5. I have mixed feelings about this. Progressives whine about greedflation. However, they don’t want cheaper goods from China.
