Hi all, I was playing around with the tax percentage calculator on Vero.fi as we’re consindering moving to a more rural part of the country.
I’m aware that the municipal tax varies between municipalities, but to my surprise, it also looks like the overal tax rate differs depending on where you live.
I’ve checked Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Salo, and the difference can be 2.5%(?) and potentially even more, not to mention the municipality tax on top of that. Do people who chose to live outside of cities really pay a higher tax rate?
The same data was used for every calculation, the only thing that I changed was the municipality.

Municipality tax is up to the municipality, some places have it higher than some cities, some places have it lower.
The municipal tax causes the difference in overall tax rate
Why do you find it surprising that municipal tax affects overall tax rate?
Yes
It’s not ‘on top of that’.
The municipal tax is exactly the reason why the combined tax rate changes – that 8,10% is included in 22,0%.
