Comment:I actually hate the original title but I leave it for the sake of it
Governments consider such measures Terrifying just because they are completely unable to make rules and actually create a legislative space around something that might as well save us from runaway climate change
.Its always funny sorting through concrete papers and then watching mostly people who are deeply uninformed about our highly uncertain future boycott research and tangible action due to propaganda and plain misinformation.
I will never stop advocating for geoengineering research and future implementation cause given our current options net zero won’t be the final answer people think it will
I really hope we sometime get our heads out ofour asses and finally face some basic facts about the state of the planet
Watch your local news and you’ll see that we are heading to a place where some countries will try geoengineering. AI least here on the news data centers being built are frequently featured.
Here in Michigan we have at least 2 large AI data center projects in the early phases of permitting and 10 more potential projects in early planning. There is literally over a trillion dollars looking for places in the US alone to build new computing infrastructure. The projects that are actually underway here represent 1.35GW of capacity.
You can deploy all the green energy you want at this rate and we will continue to consume it all in pursuit of AGI. Which means we will keep the fossil fuel plants online as well.
And that means we will barrel straight into a crisis that requires exceptional solutions. But that won’t be turning off the computers.
Any plan that doesn’t include reducing emission is not only useless; it’s a deliberate distraction.
Humans will do anything except reducing greenhouse gasses
No it isn’t. The terrifying industry is oil, and the legislatures they corrupt. And by extension the representatives who accept their bribes that we keep re-electing.
This is attempting to paint the efforts to assuage as much damage as possible to the ecosphere as some nefarious plot instead of the workaround to the workaround of dismissing climate scientists in favor of capital profits for over a century and still today.
Geoengineering to stop climate change is like solving your overspending problem with credit cards.
It’s really hard to imagine places like India Pakistan Saudi Arabia not launching their own cooling efforts given their countries are going to become uninhabitable. It seems like this needs to be managed at the UN level.

Science fiction dreams are coming true
Scary industry is the one where we keep doing what we’ve been doing, poisoning the air, water, and ground with dinosaur juice all so we can light it on fire and hope that it “works out.”
