**Data source:**
General Social Survey ([https://gss.norc.org](https://gss.norc.org)) (NORC at the University of Chicago), 2022 and 2024 waves, survey-weighted (WTSSPS × OVERSAMP). Computed from the public microdata ([https://gss.norc.org/content/dam/gss/get-the-data/documents/stata/GSS_stata.zip](https://gss.norc.org/content/dam/gss/get-the-data/documents/stata/GSS_stata.zip)); the variables are also browsable in the GSS Data Explorer ([https://gssdataexplorer.norc.org](https://gssdataexplorer.norc.org)). The GSS has asked the identical question since 1973: whether “sexual relations between two adults of the same sex” are wrong, with “not wrong at all” as the accepting answer. The chart shows the share choosing “not wrong at all” in each group.
**Tools used:**
Matplotlib
**Other**
Group sample sizes (2022/2024): Democrats 947/814, Protestants 887/912, Republicans 674/717, no religion 613/568, Independents 524/515, Catholics 494/409.
Worth noting: the declines for Catholics (-1.3) and Independents (-2.4) are within sampling noise; the larger declines (no religion -9.7, Republicans -7.2, Protestants -7.3, Democrats -6.3) are not. In the full sample this is the first statistically significant decline on this question in more than thirty years. Gallup’s separate series ([https://news.gallup.com/poll/1651/gay-lesbian-rights-relations.aspx](https://news.gallup.com/poll/1651/gay-lesbian-rights-relations.aspx)) corroborates the turn: its “morally acceptable” measure fell from 71% in 2022 to 62% in 2026.

Eh. Curious how this would compare to opinions on sex in general. It is well documented that people are consuming and participating in far less sexual content now than 10 years ago.
Would be interesting if statements of “not wrong at all” dropped for every type of sexual relationship in the same time period.
Gut feel – this is in part because Americans feel more comfortable admitting they are homophonic in the current political climate rather than any change in views
Members of the LGB community are increasingly resentful of the “T” and this chart shows why. Like it or not, they all get lumped in together and the push on unpopular “T” issues (trans women in women’s sports and medial transition of minors) has unfortunately had a deleterious impact on the social acceptance of all of it.
Because the new wave of hateful folks are all sheep believing the fashprop that has been flooding their phone screens during those years, and ever since.
I’m going to speculate that a decade of intense propaganda and social pressure coupled with HR departments seeing an opportunity to increase their power over their colleagues has led to American not ever wanting to see a gay person for the rest of their life?
Stuff always ebs and flows, not too worried. The No side always had pretty trash arguments, so they are not winning any open debates. If free speech does go the way of the Dodo we got worse problems than gay marriage though. The no religion drop seems off. Wonder what is behind that.
The fact that these surveys exist is itself an act of stupidity. It’s like asking someone their opinion on gravity. Gay people exist. You don’t get to weigh in on that.
“Woke 1 was crazy, haha”
The Woke 1 in question:
The power of propaganda in changing people’s minds. The news repeats bullshit. The people worry it might be real. Then the a whole shift happens.
Humans are mostly just a set of programmed responses wrapped in a medium that believe it makes choices. Graphs like this demonstrate how easy it is for oligarchs to manipulate those lacking critical thinking.
I think this is because it went from simply being accepted to having to be celebrated.
