Microsoft AI Chief Marketing Officer Andréa Mallard is set to step down from her role about six months after joining the company from Pinterest, according to Business Insider.

Mallard joined Microsoft’s AI unit in January. In an internal memo dated June 30, Microsoft executive Yusuf Mehdi told employees that she planned to relocate her family to Europe in August to be closer to her father, who was unwell, according to Business Insider.

Microsoft confirmed Mallard’s departure plans and said she will remain with the company in an advisory capacity until early next year.

In the memo cited in the media report, Mehdi said, “I’m grateful for the incredible energy and consumer-centric ethos she’s brought to turbo-charging our Copilot marketing efforts; Andrea has played a key role in advocating for a more unified approach, including the single app experience.”

Mallard’s departure comes as the company restructures its approach to consumer marketing. It is merging its separate consumer and business Copilot applications into a single app.

Copilot marketing responsibilities will be consolidated under Microsoft executive Jared Spataro, and the company does not plan to directly replace Mallard’s CMO role.

The departure is also part of broader changes within the company’s AI unit. In March, Microsoft moved Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman into a role focused on a superintelligence team while consolidating its commercial and consumer Copilot teams under new leadership.

Before joining Microsoft, Mallard spent more than seven years as Pinterest’s CMO. She had also held marketing leadership roles at Athleta and Omada Health.
