The September 2026 release adds more than 250 updates, including new tools for sourcing, payments, supplier onboarding and external AI integrations
Coupa, a platform for managing enterprise spending, has expanded its use of AI agents with its September 2026 product release, adding more than 250 updates across procurement, finance and supply chain workflows. The release includes new capabilities for autonomous payment processing, sourcing and supplier onboarding, as well as integration with external AI tools.
The company said more than 450 customers have been using Coupa agents in production since the first Navi agents were released in May 2025. According to Coupa, some customers have reported reductions of up to 50% in requisition cycle times and 40% in sourcing cycle times. In one example cited by the company, the Navi Payment Batch Creation Agent ran 14 payment batches covering 2,395 payments worth $20.1 million within five weeks of entering production. The company said the operation cost about $27 in AI credits and helped one customer save $2,000 in accounts payable staff costs in one week.
“We are shifting the modern procurement and finance leader from running manual operations to directing a high-performing, AI-augmented engine,” said Salvatore Lombardo, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Coupa. “By letting autonomous agents handle complex payment, sourcing, and supply chain workflows, our customers can eliminate bottlenecks and focus their people on delivering transformational business outcomes that multiply their margins.”
Another part of the release is Navi Connect, which uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to allow external AI systems, including Microsoft Copilot and custom-built agents, to access live spend data. The integration provides more than 30 tools covering procurement, invoicing, contracts and expenses. Access is read-write and follows existing user permissions and security controls, with activity subject to auditing.
Coupa is also introducing Spend Pulse, currently in Limited Availability, which uses data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics alongside enterprise spending information to provide market benchmarks for procurement and finance teams. The company says the capability is designed to help teams compare supplier pricing with inflation data and assess market conditions using traceable information.
The release also adds automated capabilities to the sourcing process. Autonomous Sourcing Event Creation and Navi-guided Supplier Onboarding handle tasks such as template selection, item entry, supplier checks and duplicate detection. Coupa is targeting an approximately 80% reduction in cycle time for fully automated intake-to-award processes, while keeping human approval in the workflow.
Custom agents created through Coupa’s Agent Studio have also become the platform’s most-used AI feature, according to the company. More than 400 agents have been built since the tool was released in May, while more than 50 specialised Navi agents are available across Early Access, Limited Availability or General Availability.
Among the agents now generally available are tools for analysing hotel expense records, validating invoice attachments and identifying invoices eligible for early payment discounts. Coupa said a global chocolate and confectionery manufacturer is using its AI capabilities to assess category dynamics and supplier risk in real time and generate purchasing recommendations based on its purchase history and volume.
The release also incorporates technology from Rossum and Tonkean following Coupa’s recent acquisitions of the two companies. Coupa AP Automation, powered by Rossum, provides intelligent document processing, while Coupa Compose I&O, powered by Tonkean, handles intake and orchestration. More than 40 Coupa customers have adopted the integrated offerings in the two months since the acquisitions, according to the company.
