Nestlé India has categorically dismissed media reports claiming it received an FSSAI notice regarding insect contamination in its Maggi instant noodles, asserting that independent laboratory testing has found absolutely no evidence of infestation.
In a regulatory filing on Friday, the FMCG giant stated it categorically rejects the allegations, which it traced back to a single, unverified consumer grievance circulating on social media.
Nestlé India revealed that its internal teams have been unable to inspect the product in question because the complainant has remained completely unreachable. “We are yet to receive the complaint sample from the complainant as the account is unavailable,” the company stated.
Despite lacking the original sample, the company immediately launched an internal verification protocol by analyzing retained quality logs from the corresponding manufacturing batch alongside random control samples pulled directly from retail markets. These samples were then dispatched to a third-party laboratory accredited by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for independent verification. Ultimately, the independent test reports delivered a clear verdict, confirming perfect compliance with national food safety benchmarks and showing zero signs of contamination or structural storage defects.
Nestlé confirmed it has already submitted a comprehensive technical representation—backed by its batch quality records, market sample analytics, and independent laboratory clearances—to central food safety regulators to conclusively settle the matter.
While Nestlé aggressively cleared its position, the FSSAI is independently escalating pressure on other major consumer brands over separate retail and backend supply chain vulnerabilities. The regulator has officially targeted a prominent KFC outlet located at MVR Mall in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, ordering the fast-food operator to execute an immediate root-cause analysis to identify structural deficiencies regarding on-premise kitchen sanitation, cold storage temperatures, hazardous waste disposal systems, pest management, and employee hygiene protocols.
Simultaneously, the e-commerce marketplace Flipkart India remains under intense scrutiny following separate consumer complaints regarding the handling and delivery hygiene of packaged goods managed via its supply network.
