I am shocked at people in the thread about Norway drinking least alcohol (almost) in Europe, and how many foreigners insists binge drinking is common in Norway. Its less common than most countries it is natural to compare with, and foreigners may run into a cultural collision if they keep insisting this to Norwegians or when trying to navigate Norway.

Iceland at 50%. Japan at 52%. USA at 42%. Maybe Swedens large muslim population spares Norway for the embarassment of being the least bingers in Scandinavia? Spain, Ireland and Portugal really slamming them down. Norway beaten by Germany too, narrowly, just as in 1940.

Binge drinking is at sad levels in Norway with a close to bottom level binge drinking compare to other countries. Luckily May 17 is coming up, and we all get a change to kick off already on Thursday.

Numbers from 2020, due to a long lag on these comparative studies. We'll put it under the culture flair as foreigners seem to believe Norway is where Ireland is or something regarding binge drinking.

  1. Many of these countries’ numbers are so close it makes little sense ranking them; all of Scandinavia, France, the UK, Germany and Italy are basically the same.

Also there are three Scandinavian countries, so the “second least” is the same country as “second most”…
