Hi everyone,
I am an Italian student studying at LMU. I received this letter by the BARMER insurance asking me for money every month, despite having a European national insurance. When I enrolled at my uni, I made them send the confirmation that i really had the national insurance in my country, so i do not get why they are asking me for that now. Does anybody know what this is about?

  1. I’m pretty sure that you need German health insurance if you’re studying in Germany. 

  2. Do you live in Germany temporary for less than 6 months? Then you can use your national insurance. Otherwise you have to switch to German insurance. You are free to choose any statutory provider, you don’t have to go with Barmer. But they all cost the same (with a few euros difference).
