It’s insane that we’re saying 2 very different jobs must be paid the same and will be enforced by the courts if they are not.

The law firm Leigh Day, which represents store workers……..had been set to share potentially more than £30m in back pay as a result of that judgement.
The legislation was terrible and opened up these lawsuits. It has bankrupted Birmingham council. There should be a factorisation of danger (warehouse workers will often be carrying heavy items for example) or with Birmingham council, is that binman have to handle rubbish.
How is it that 2 completely different jobs can be treated as the same, and therefore the lower paid of the 2 should get a payrise/backpay? At what point does a shop assistant start to demand the CEO’s wage? Ridiculous
Further proof that pay bands are ridiculous. It completely strips out supply and demand. Warehouse work is labour intensive so not popular ergo should have higher pay.

Absolutely stupid you can say 2 different jobs are the same. If you wanted more money, why don’t you go and apply for that job then? Because you have to work shifts which takes years off your life? Because you’re at a greater risk of injury and death from heavy machinery? Because it can be too cold/hot? Because you don’t want to be lifting heavy stuff for 8-12hrs a day?
There’s a reason one pays more. Because it’s less desirable so to make people want to apply, the pay goes up.
