Hello, borscht is a Ukrainian dish, and on July 1, 2022, the culture of cooking Ukrainian borscht was inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage list of UNESCO. Here is the official press release on the UNESCO website.

For many years, Russia has tried to claim borscht as its own, just as it is now trying to seize parts of Ukrainian territory through military aggression.

I thought that after the UNESCO recognition, these attempts regarding borscht would stop. However, I now see a video of Ukrainian borscht being prepared with Russian music by a well-known American culinary YouTuber, ChefRush.

I believe that this kind of cultural appropriation is inappropriate in general, and especially in the context of the ongoing war, where Russia continues its aggression against Ukraine.

Here is the video link: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ihMzIhh2lxI — it already has around 2.6 million views.

Perhaps this is something that Ukrainian cultural authorities, including the Ministry of Culture, should also pay attention to.
