With the festive season looming and your social calendars soon becoming chock-a-block, it often means squeezing into party outfits. And with the help of a personal trainer, you can burn fat just in time for it.

US-based personal trainer Jarrod Nobbe, MA, CSCS, has shared three accessible workouts that he claims are some of the fastest ways to burn fat before Christmas. Many Brits are keen to get rid of that extra layer before the celebrating rolls around.

Research suggests many begin the ‘Christmas prep’ as early as November, and the pre-festive seasonal diet is all a part of that. For those new to slimming down, it can be quite overwhelming with countless diets and exercises and knowing where to begin can be tough.

But the trainer has three quick burners to recommend. First of all, Nobbe suggests shadow boxing as the ultimate “convenient calorie-burner”

No boxing ring or punchbag is needed to shift fat with this exercise, but simply shadow boxing at home, with enough space, will do. He says: “Shadow boxing is a great way to burn calories. This do-anywhere move is a convenient calorie burner that also helps with coordination.”

To do this movement, he advises standing in a boxing stance and throwing both jabs, hooks and uppercuts for up to two minutes at a high intensity. It’s important to ensure the core is braced throughout the entirety of this exercise and that your feet are moving constantly throughout.

For the best results, short and sharp rounds are advised, as they can quickly raise the heart rate. Not only this, but they help to work the shoulders, arms and midsection all together, without the need for any equipment.

According to the personal trainer, a stellar way to boost your metabolism is through sprint intervals. Nobbe says that for those wanting to push themselves a little bit harder, sprints are some of the most powerful exercises for fast fat loss.

He says: “Sprinting helps build lower-body muscle, cardiovascular strength, and upper body if you involve your arms. This style of interval training doesn’t just burn calories while you’re running – it also keeps your metabolism elevated afterwards, making it a smart pick for people wanting to lean down before Christmas without spending all day in the gym.”

As opposed to long jogging, he recommends short bursts of the following: Sprint at the fastest speed you can for 30 seconds, rest for 30 seconds, and then repeat this for five to seven rounds.

Lastly, a quick go-to movement for quick fat loss is skipping rope, which Nobbe suggests is simply “one of the best exercises to burn belly fat“. While it’s typically associated with children on a playground, it is a form of fitness that should be taken more seriously for great results.

The trainer explains that jumping high isn’t everything; instead, just aim to keep a few inches above the ground, maintaining good posture as you jump. Working in short intervals of 30 seconds on followed by 30 seconds off for a good five to ten minutes can see some serious calories burnt off before Christmas.
