GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (WMC) – Week one of Friday Football Fever is in the books, and the Houston Mustangs drew a large crowd despite the summer heat. The Mustangs faced rival Germantown under the Friday Night Lights.
Hundreds of fans came to the stadium for the game, bringing school spirit and ways to stay cool, including water, towels and portable fans.

Fan Courtney Pace said it was the hottest game she’s attended. Fan Jeff Brown said it was likely the hottest night he’s watched a football game.
Pace came to support her son, who is in the band. Brown came to support his child on the team.
The temperature climbed to 94 degrees, with a heat index near 97.
Coach cites hydration
Houston head coach James Thomas said staying hydrated is a priority on days like this for players and fans.
“You know how it feels. If you’re properly hydrated, you just feel better. And when you’re not, you don’t feel so good,” Thomas said.
Tailgaters were grilling before kickoff.
Pace said fans should drink fluids to feel refreshed, move to shade if they get hot, and attend with a friend who can check on them.
“You need to be drinking something that helps you feel refreshed. If you get hot, you need to go into the shade. And if you’re worried, make sure you’re out with a friend so you have someone looking out for you,” Pace said.
