Newcastle United are reportedly leading Manchester United in the race to sign Benjamin Sesko, as they can offer him Champions League football.

Newcastle United are reportedly leading the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko

Premier League rivals Manchester United are also in the race to sign the 22-year-old striker, but they need to generate money through player sales to fund the move for the Slovenian.

After missing out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, Newcastle could reportedly lose their talisman striker, Alexander Isak, to the Premier League champions.

In case the deal goes through, Newcastle will have money burning a hole in their pockets to sign at least two strikers, and Sesko could be one of them.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Sesko rates Newcastle as his most likely destination ahead of United, although the Red Devils are still not out of the race.

Isak’s potential move to Liverpool would change the transfer landscape for Newcastle completely.

Sesko has netted 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig, including 21 goals in all competitions last season. The forward has been one of the brightest attacking prospects in Europe, and the Magpies can tempt him with the lure of Champions League football.

Eddie Howe would like to sign two strikers after allowing Callum Wilson to leave. The Magpies have reportedly targeted Yoane Wissa, but Brentford have been holding out for a deal worth £40m.

The Red Devils are looking to further bolster their attacking options after signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo, but they are low on budget.

Adding a new striker could be a priority for United, after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to make a big impact last season.

United have reportedly shown interest in Ollie Watkins, but they have been told by Aston Villa that the player is not for sale.

Put simply, the Red Devils need to offload some of their unwanted players to fund the move for Sesko.
