There’s a new bar game in Dallas aiming to push trivia aside: Called Jeopardy! Bar League, it’s a bar version of the lately very buzzy Jeopardy! TV quiz show, and it’s showing up in a handful of bars around Dallas-Fort Worth.
Jeopardy! Bar League takes the television game show and adapts it into a live, team-based experience, giving bar patrons the chance to tackle each question as a group or play solo.
The bar game is powered by TimePlay, a platform that connects players’ mobile phones to a main screen to compete against the everyone in the bar. Teams of quizzers use their mobile devices to respond to clues, track their scores, and see live leaderboards.
The game is hosted by Geeks Who Drink, a national pub quiz company which organizes trivia games at bars across the U.S., in partnership with Sony Pictures Television. Lots of big names behind this thing!
In recent years, Jeopardy has gone from Grandma’s favorite to kind of a buzzy thing, starting with former host Alex Trebek becoming a pop-culture figure before he passed away — followed by the drama over who his replacement would be. (It ended up being Ken Jennings.)
A release claims that the Jeopardy bar game is “thriving” in the DFW metroplex, showing up in bars and breweries from Richardson to Rockwall to Denton to Plano.
“We already know that many people, including me, watch and play along with our show in bars,” says Jeopardy! Executive Producer Michael Davies. “And we know that many of our contestants come from the thriving culture of bar trivia, so it seemed only natural for us to combine these elements into Jeopardy! Bar League.”
