A Houston Tex-Mex staple is coming to a mixed-use development in Spring. The next location of Los Cucos Mexican Cafe will open later this year in City Place.

Located at 1401 Lake Plaza Dr., the restaurant will occupy approximately 7,700 square feet near City Place Plaza. Modeled after a store that opened in Montgomery last year, the new Los Cucos will feature upgraded interiors and a wraparound patio.

Founded in Katy by the Cabrera family 30 years, Los Cucos has built a devoted following for its well-executed Tex-Mex fare and warm service. Signature items include beef, chicken, and shrimp fajitas, enchiladas verdes, and a creamy green salsa. The restaurant’s success has allowed the family to expand with other concepts such as Vida Mariscos and Lago Mariscos — both seafood restaurants with a sports bar component — and Brazilian steakhouse Gauchos Do Sul.

Margaritas — rocks, frozen, or fruit-forward — lead the cocktail program, alongside other, agave-based sips and a range of beers. They’re featured during happy hour that should appeal to employees of nearby businesses such as Exxon Mobil and HP.

“Our vision for this location goes beyond being just another dining option — it’s about bringing energy and atmosphere to the heart of City Place, especially in the evenings and on weekends,” owner Sergio Cabrera Jr said in a statement. “We were drawn to City Place not only by its thoughtfully designed setting, but also the built-in customer base. It’s a wonderful opportunity to serve a wide-ranging and growing audience of professionals, residents, and visitors every day of the week.”

Los Cucos will join a number of restaurants at City Place, including Common Bond, Island Grill, and Sushi Rebel. Located near I-45 and the Grand Parkway, the 60-acre development also includes a 10-screen Star Cinema Grill, three Marriott hotels, and a 150-acre nature preserve.
