Shona and David Platt will get an urgent update on Coronation Street ahead of their heartbreaking special episode later this week. With the pair in the midst of an emotional storyline, how will they cope with some devastating news?
What to Read Next
The couple learned in recent weeks that Shona was pregnant, but today’s episode – which is streaming early on both ITVX and YouTube – will see the pair get the horrible news that their unborn child has health issues.
The instalment begins with David being accosted by Kit Green following the awkward double-date with Sarah, with Kit accusing David of making jibes about their relationship. David is unrepentant and pushes past the police officer, leading to him being arrested.
This means he is unable to take Shona to the hospital for her appointment, so Sarah agrees to give her a lift. David pleads with Kit to give him a break and let him attend the scan, with the officer relenting and driving him to the hospital.

As Shona and David lovingly gaze at their baby on the monitor, the couple get some devastating news as the sonographer points out that a mass can be spotted on the child’s neck.
Shona is referred to a consultant, with the pair still in shock following the news. She later receives a text that her next appointment is confirmed for the following day, and is unnerved by the urgency in which the consultancy was arranged.
The developments come ahead of a special episode which will air on Wednesday (12 November), with the instalment revolving exclusively around the married couple as they react to the sad news.

The episode will depict the individual perspective for each party, with Shona having an inner dialogue as she comes to terms with the situation. She’s also perplexed as to why David seems unbothered by the developments, causing some strain.
It becomes apparent that David’s demeanour is a façade to hide his true turmoil, with the character resolving to stay strong for his wife as they battle through. In moments of solitude, it becomes clear that he’s struggling just as much as his partner.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
