Trainer weighs in on setting realistic fitness goals for 2026

  • December 29, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – With the new year just days away, one fitness trainer shared tips for staying on track for your new year’s fitness goals.

Owner of Kingz and Queenz Fitness, Kelvin Frazier, said it’s important to set goals intentionally. “If you’re setting goals for 2026, set realistic goals starting off.”

According to a survey by market research company YouGov, “exercising more” was the most common New Year’s resolution for 2026.

Frazier says many people often want to set lofty goals when they’re trying to start, or rekindle, their fitness journey. But in reality, he said it may be more helpful to start small.

More Tallahassee news:

“You’ve got to crawl before you can walk. Slow progress is still progress,” the trainer said. “If you are a beginner and you want to enter the gym, don’t go in the gym and try to lift heavy weight. Start off lightweight. Don’t go in the gym trying to run on the treadmill. Start walking first.”

A person’s diet is even more critical than exercise, Frazier said. “Eating is the 80 percent. Working out is the 20,” he said. “If you’re really trying to reach those results, you actually want to start eating healthier – eating more vegetables, eating more fruit, eating more lean meat if you do eat meat. Keep a balanced diet and plenty of water.”

Frazier also encouraged people to avoid constantly chasing the latest fitness trend on social media. “You always want to stick to a plan. Give yourself two weeks up to a month on one plan,” he said.
