Starmer says it is ‘staggering’ and ‘unforgivable’ he was not told Mandelson failed vetting

Keir Starmer has said it is ‘staggering’ and ‘unforgivable’ he was not told that Peter Mandelson had failed vetting. The prime minister was responding to Guardian revelations that Peter Mandelson failed his security vetting clearance but the decision was overruled by the Foreign Office to ensure he could take up his post as ambassador to the US. Sir Olly Robbins, the UK Foreign Office’s top civil servant, has already been forced out of his post overnight and there are calls from opposition parties for the prime minister himself to resign.
Starmer is in Paris to chair a gathering of world leaders on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz as the revelations sink in in Westminster and Whitehall.

Revealed: Mandelson failed vetting but Foreign Office overruled decision

  1. 'It is both staggering and unforgiveable that I put my fingers in my ears and shouted 'LA LA LA LA LA' while they told me about it.'

  2. The press was full of reasons he would fail vetting at the time. If you didn’t know, it was on purpose. Did you have your fingers in your earls saying lalalala??

  3. Bs Starmer, it is in the interests of the Prime Minister to have the info for national security purposes, are you saying that you are complacent?

  4. He's a proven liar! Time and time again… He's literally the most untrustworthy person in the UK. It's pathetic and he's personally damaging Parliament. The public had low trust in Politicians anyway, but he's reducing that trust to an all time new low. He's a disgrace and not fit to help kids across the road with a lollipop stick, let alone be the UK's PM. Pathetic.

  5. Does this imply that no one in this country is capable of holding this man accountable? Am I overlooking something?

  6. Thought he was playing a blinder appointing someone from Slytherin to deal with Trump. Turns out we have standards for a reason. If he genuinely didn’t know, then everyone who did should be sacked and exposed.

  7. Ask WHY, Sir Olly Robbins Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom was forced to resign (and who forced him), was his judgement overuled by Looney Lammy when he was Foreign Secretary at the time when the "Prince of Darkness" aka Mandleson was approved to be the U.K. Ambassador to Washington?

  8. Was he not told, or did he never ask?

Let's take him at his word, he wasn't told. That's still a pretty awful look. He never checked it. He promised a return of morality to government after Partygate, and failed at the first hurdle, to make sure your team are beyond reproach. If there was anybody in the inner circle that would require a little extra attention it is Mandelson, he is a professional snake.

Again, taking him at his word, who did know and allow the appointment to continue? Who in the foreign office knew that Mandelson was a threat to national security and kept their mouth shut? That person must never be allowed to hold any position of authority again as their judgement is clearly terrible and they should be considered compromised.

Now, given that Starmer is either lying, or incompetent, this should bring him down.

  9. It's staggering and unforgivable that you would lie through your teeth through omission every day and somehow get away with it!!

  10. Does he seriously expect the British public to believe a word he says,he’s done nothing but lie and deceive us since he got his grotty feet under the table
