Darren Jones insists that there’s been “no wrongdoing on behalf of the prime minister” in the vetting process of Peter Mandelson.
It follows a row that has carried on throughout the week, after it was revealed 10 days ago that Lord Mandelson was given developed vetting security clearance, despite effectively having failed security checks.
The chief secretary to the prime minister told Sky News: “The prime minister has been very clear that the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as ambassador of the United States was the wrong one. He regrets that and he has apologised for it.”
