Inside Iran: ITV News reports from the ground in Tehran as Trump’s deadline draws closer

US President Donald Trump has offered a new harsh warning, as Iran rejected the latest ceasefire proposal.

Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency said Tehran wants a permanent end to the war, and it has conveyed its response to the US through Pakistan.

But a regional official involved in the ceasefire talks says the efforts haven’t collapsed, saying “we are still talking to both sides”.

The response comes ahead of a deadline set by President Trump to begin bombing Iranian energy and infrastructure.

Iran and the United States received the draft proposal calling for a 45-day ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as a possible way to end the war, according to officials.

They say the proposal came from Egyptian, Pakistani and Turkish mediators working to halt the fighting.

They hoped the 45-day window would provide enough time for extensive talks between the countries to reach a permanent ceasefire.

The proposal was sent late Sunday night to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff, the officials said.
