Brits swelter in third record-breaking day of June heatwave

Another temperature record for June has been set in this week’s heatwave after a high of 37.3C was recorded in Santon Downham, Suffolk on Friday afternoon.

It beat the previous hottest June day on record, when 37.1C was recorded in Cavendish, Suffolk, earlier today.

The Met Office said that a number of other locations may come in higher during the course of Friday afternoon and would be issuing updates.

It comes after the forecaster issued an “extreme heat” red weather warning covering much of London and the South East, running until 9pm on Friday.

  1. I didn't get much sleep last night like many, when I finally nodded off…the thunder and lightning started here in the West Midlands. Tonight feels much cooler than of late though. Our infrastructure, our homes are not built for temperatures like this. Anyone saying this is "just Summer" are idiots.
