FIFA responds after UEFA vows to boycott World Cup

FIFA has defended its controversial plan to sell stakes in its competitions, including the World Cup, to private investors.

In a statement, football’s governing body denied it was “selling football” and declared: “This is not something FIFA would ever entertain.”

It comes after widespread backlash to the plan reached a new peak on Thursday with UEFA’s announcement that all European nations are prepared to boycott the World Cup if it goes ahead.

  1. No mention of women's football… and a doubling of games, a rise in ticket prices (!) and, as mentioned in the document, FIFA does not make as much as American NFL etc. – which means a shed load more advertising and a lot less action. If that's not selling footy, I'm a chocolate teapot!
