Ceuta: Spain PM condemns EU’s ‘selfish’ response to migrant crossings

Spain has installed a 500 metre long barrier along its sea border with Morocco – after
tens of thousands of people rushed into the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta.

Spain’s prime minister claimed the reaction of some neighbouring countries had been driven by prejudice, ignorance and fake news.

While the European Commission president said not a single person had managed to reach mainland Spain or anywhere else in the EU.

  1. Of course, Britain’s illegal Channel nonsense could be stopped literally overnight if we just detained and deported. Because there’s clearly no political will to do that, this might never end. Planned? Feels like it. You just have to look at the Spanish Supreme Court and its decision to not touch them when they touch the water and you get this. That’s why Spain was invaded by 60,000 Africans the other day. And it’s why Britain has been invaded by 200,000 + since 2018. Be in zero doubt, this is all planned. 😉👍

  10. An attack orchestrated by the Moroccan government. Applauded and possibly aided by Washington and Jerusalem to punish Mr Sanchez. In Morocco's eyes Ceuta is part of Morocco. Yes they all went home again after the "fun" was over. Real asylum seekers don''t turn up all at once in their 10's of 1000's wearing only shorts and flip flops in the back of lorries. Great video fodder for US and Russia to spread chaos and division around Europe via social media.
    It is such a shame that so many European governments also played along with the Russian trolls online.
    Since Morocco has done this same trick before when they wanted to punish Spain, there is no excuse to portray it otherwise.

  11. I don’t understand some of these men. They surely had to see how people coming this way end up on the internet by now – some lose lives, others get deported, most of them end up feeling isolated or like 2nd class, driving food delivery on a bike or getting a job below their qualifications, others who manage to do better than that still end up feeling displaced and realising it wasn’t all that. I can’t understand it because a lot of them aren’t in dire need, they simply want “the western life”. There’s no more American or European dream, there never really was. Try to come via legal means or focus on rebuilding and changing your community and country instead of rushing abroad. People who would have not have lived luxury life back home did not need to lose theirs on the way to something that wasn’t really even better than their home. I’m just shocked how many people still risk it like this

  15. Spain gained Melilla in 1497 and Ceuta in 1640. Melilla was taken by a Spanish commander sent by the Duke of Medina Sidonia, while Ceuta was first taken by Portugal in 1415 and passed to Spain later when Portugal and Spain separated.

    France captured and took control of Morocco in stages, beginning with military invasions in 1907 (such as occupying Oujda and Casablanca) and culminating on March 30, 1912, with the signing of the Treaty of Fes, which made Morocco a French protectorate.
