Wes Streeting covers a wide range of pressing political and national issues, beginning with a heartfelt message: “On behalf of myself and the government, I just want to wish Eamonn Holmes well.” As Holmes recovers in hospital following a stroke, the Health Secretary’s remarks strike a rare personal tone before the conversation quickly shifts to tougher political ground. Streeting doesn’t hold back, declaring, “The Conservatives eroded our defence spending,” as he criticizes previous Tory governments and their handling of national security, including the controversial Chagos Islands deal.

The discussion intensifies as comparisons to historical leadership emerge, with Streeting warning, “It doesn’t look very strong when you’ve got the US president comparing the Prime Minister to Chamberlain!” Meanwhile, Camilla Tominey challenges him directly, accusing the government of hesitation: “You’re just delaying and dithering!” She presses further on defence policy delays and labels parts of the strategy as “pie in the sky lies!” The fiery exchange highlights the growing tension around defence decisions and the government’s pace of action.

Domestic policy and party politics take centre stage next, as Streeting turns his criticism toward Kemi Badenoch, stating, “Kemi Badenoch has got some brassneck!” and attacking her record in government. But Tominey pushes back hard on NHS performance, asking, “Are you going to apologise for the fact that under Labour, 12-hour trolley waits have gone up!” The interview closes with Streeting addressing industrial action, criticizing striking doctors: “They’ve cut off their nose to spite their face by rejecting this deal,” adding, “I do wish the BMA would sometimes take yes for an answer.” It’s a combative and revealing exchange that captures the current political climate from multiple angles.

  1. Every government since the 80s have been hollowing out the military and spending that money on pet projects, corruption and bloat in the misguided belief that if anything threatened the nation directly then America will fight our wars for us.

  2. I don't think , talking over others is a good look Mr Streeting ….we know you have a set agenda and a set script you want to get heard but that isn't an excuse for rudeness. Defence ? What defence ?
