Can Burnham stop the UK heading for another financial crash?

The autumn Budget is looming, but rising borrowing costs could already be eating into Andy Burnham’s financial headroom. With the money available to deliver the ‘radical’ agenda he promised shrinking, the new PM and his Chancellor face tough choices: tax rises or spending cuts.

Can Burnham make those difficult choices and take on some of Labour’s most politically sensitive commitments, including the welfare bill and the pension triple lock, or will his tendency to ‘people please’ hold him back?

And with war in Iran continuing, driving up oil prices and impacting the health of the global economy, is Burnham’s biggest challenge the markets rather than his own MPs?

Tom Bradby and Robert Peston discuss on this week’s Talking Politics.

  1. Its not a financial crash you should be worried about what you should do worried about is a British rebellion against the British police and this nazi government that's what you need to worrie about the British people have had enough time to take everything back and we will win there is more and more of us than you think

  2. This government thinks more state and more spending is the route to economic growth and they will keep going until the IMF says stop

  3. No its not Donald Trump's fault – this is getting tiring – its this globalist leftist policy of trying to host every immigrant we can and leave everything else to go to pot. Defence is useless, youth employment is now massive, our best and brightest have moved to places with more opportunity, we are not a great place to start a business because of taxes and the increasingly unsafe environment. What a waste of AIR this trumpet is.

  4. UK economy ,Finance to begin crashing from November to next year. UK to start sinking and people and countries to reject the UK and send their funds from the UK.

  5. It's obvious the crash is imminent. I'm so tired of the hardship we've suffered for the past 20 years. But hey, let's empty our pockets for crooked Zelensky, for a war he's badly losing.
