Argentina’s Milei escalates Falklands dispute in sovereignty push against Britain • FRANCE 24

Argentine President Javier Milei said he would sanction oil companies drilling in the Falkland Islands, the British overseas territory claimed by Argentina, in a move which could escalate tensions with London. Milei’s comments in a televised national address on Thursday came ‌days after US President Donald Trump said he was reviewing the United States’ neutral position on the remote archipelago in the South Atlantic.

  1. So in other words: Milei has problems at home and tries to distract Argentinians with an outside conflict.

Oldest trick in the book – except that it rarely actually worked.

  2. In 2013 the people of Falklands voted whether to stay with Britain or join Argentina. 92% of the electors voted and 99.8% voted to stay. Maybe we should respect those who live there.

  3. The UK did not help the USA in Iran because the USA did not inform the UK of the war or what its goals were (Trump said they would topple the whole regime and help the protesters, they did neither).
The Americans did also not provide cheaper gas/oil to the UK to compensate for the rise in prices due to the war there.
