UK, France, Canada to ban imports from Israeli settlements • FRANCE 24 English

Britain, France and Canada said Tuesday they will ban imports from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, with a UK minister accusing Israel of turning a blind eye to the “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians there. FRANCE 24’s Emerald Maxwell reports.

  1. so Israel traditionally mislabels these goods as Made in Israel, which EU courts have ruled illegal several years ago already. so this begs the question how these countries intend to enforce these bans in practice? the logical conclusion would be to ban all goods until Israel properly labels their goods. but I guess in practice it will be pushed to the importers who need to verify the actual origin based on postal codes. but the crux will then be if someone will actually double check the importers and issue fines if they didn’t check sufficiently.
